Protection des consommateurs : pratiques de manipulation en ligne constatées dans 148 des 399 boutiques en ligne examinées

Aujourd'hui, la Commission européenne et les autorités nationales de protection des consommateurs de 23 États membres, de la Norvège et de l'Islande (réseau CPC) ont publié les résultats d'un passage au crible (opération « coup de balai ») de sites web de vente au détail. Cet examen a porté sur 399 boutiques en ligne de détaillants commercialisant des produits allant des textiles aux produits électroniques. Il a également visé trois types spécifiques de pratiques manipulatrices dont on constate souvent qu'elles poussent les consommateurs à faire des choix qui pourraient ne pas être dans leur intérêt supérieur, ce que l'on appelle les « interfaces truquées ». Parmi celles-ci, on peut citer : les faux compteurs à rebours ; les interfaces web conçues pour amener les consommateurs à effectuer des achats, des abonnements ou d'autres choix ; et des informations cachées. L'enquête a montré que 148 sites contenaient au moins l'une de ces trois interfaces truquées.

Les autorités nationales vont à présent contacter les opérateurs concernés pour que ceux-ci rectifient leur site web et, le cas échéant, elles prendront des mesures supplémentaires, conformément à leurs procédures nationales.

Agriculture : la Commission approuve la « Ciliegia di Bracigliano » d'Italie comme indication géographique protégée

Aujourd'hui, la Commission a approuvé l'ajout de la « Ciliegia di Bracigliano » d'Italie dans le registre des indications géographiques protégées (IGP).

Cultivé dans les provinces de Salerno et d'Avellino, le cerisier trouve dans cette aire de production les meilleures conditions pour garantir une croissance optimale de la plante et un développement régulier des fruits. La région est aujourd'hui encore considérée comme la « terre des cerises ». Les connaissances techniques acquises au fil des siècles par les producteurs, adaptées aux conditions locales, ont contribué à en faire un produit de qualité reconnue.

La « Ciliegia di Bracigliano » est un ingrédient de base de nombreuses recettes, et son importance économique et culturelle pour sa zone de production historique a été démontrée au fil des ans par de nombreuses foires et fêtes, comme la fête de la « Ciliegia di Bracigliano », qui a lieu chaque année.

Cette nouvelle dénomination sera ajoutée à la liste des 1 608 produits agricoles déjà protégés. La liste de toutes les indications géographiques protégées se trouve dans la base de données eAmbrosia. Mergers: Commission clears acquisition of joint control over Quats Business by Clariant and Wilmar

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control of Clariant's Quats Business (‘Quats Business') by Clariant International Ltd. (‘Clariant'), both of Switzerland, and Wilmar International Limited (‘Wilmar') through their joint venture Global Amines Company Pte. Ltd. (‘GAC'), both of Singapore.

The Quats Business develops and produces quaternary ammonium compounds (known as ‘quats') and, to a small extent, intermediate products for the manufacturing of quats. Clariant produces and sells cationic surfactants. Wilmar produces and sells fatty acids and fatty alcohols. GAC produces and sells amines, including non-ionic, cationic and amphoteric surfactants.

The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns given the companies' limited combined market position resulting from the proposed transaction.

Executive Vice-President Timmermans concludes Latin American COP28 mission in Mexico

Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, concludes today a three-day visit in Mexico as part of a Latin American climate diplomacy mission that has brought him to Brazil and Colombia last week. In all three countries, the Executive Vice-President has participated in meetings with government authorities, stakeholders and civil society to prepare the forthcoming COP28 UN Climate Change Conference and learn the latest developments in those countries in terms of environmental protection, uptake of renewable energies and emissions reductions.

Today in Mexico, he will have bilateral meetings with Marcelo Ebrard, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mexico, who will be accompanied by Lázaro Cárdenas, Chief Advisor to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador; with María Luisa Albores, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources; and with Raquel Buenrostro, Minister of Economy accompanied by Alejandro Encinas, Vice-Minister for International Trade. In the afternoon, he will hold a youth dialogue with students and climate ambassadors at ITAM University (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México). On Saturday, he met with civil society, business representatives, and think tanks to exchange views on the country's green transition. On Sunday in Xochimilco, he visited an agroecological project financed by the EU, together with representatives from the NGO Pronatura.

During his visit to Brazil, Executive Vice-President Timmermans had the opportunity to talk about the country's green plans with Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Marina Silva, among other government representatives. He stressed that the EU will work closely with Brazil to make COP28 a success and support the country's zero deforestation target.

His visit to Colombia allowed Executive Vice-President Timmermans to meet with several ministers, including Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad; Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Arturo Luna; and Energy and Mines Minister, Irene Vélez. The EU and Colombia are natural partners in the fight against the climate and biodiversity crises. Both sides will work closely together to prepare for the UN Climate conference this November. Commissioner Gentiloni in Berlin to discuss common economic priorities

Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, is in Berlin today and tomorrow, where he will meet Finance Minister, Christian Lindner; Head of the Federal Chancellery, Wolfgang Schmidt; and Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister, Robert Habeck. They will exchange on key economic policy priorities such as the reform of the EU economic governance framework following the orientations put forward by the Commission in November 2022. Discussions will also focus on enhancing Europe's competitiveness notably in areas related to the green transition.

This afternoon, Commissioner Gentiloni will also visit the Neggst Foods project, which receives support under the InvestEU programme via the Green Generation Fund. He will then deliver a public lecture at the Hertie School on building a fair, green and competitive European economy.
