EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030


Concerned at the pace nature is declining, Parliament will discuss with Commissioner Sinkevičius how to protect the EU’s land and sea areas more effectively. MEPs are set to call for legislation and binding targets on protection of ecosystems and urban biodiversity, among others measures. The vote is scheduled for Tuesday, with results announced on Wednesday morning.

Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to overcome the crisis

In a debate with Commissioner Schmit, MEPs will look into the situation of European SMEs, mostly active in sectors hit hardest by the economic crisis, and the strategy to support them to recover. The better regulation agenda, which aims to reduce the administrative burden on businesses, will also be raised.

EU support for customs control equipment. MEPs will assess the budgetary programme to help member states purchase, maintain and replace scanners, automated systems to detect licence plates, and mobile laboratories for sample analysis, in order to ensure better control of the EU’s external borders. The new funding instrument is expected to be endorsed on Wednesday.

Votes

Between 18.00 and 19.15, MEPs will vote, among other things, on


  • European Globalisation Fund aid for Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland,

  • a provisional agreement with the Council on targeted amendments to the European Travel Information and Authorisation System Regulation.

The results will be announced on Tuesday morning at 9.00.

    Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to overcome the crisis

    In a debate with Commissioner Schmit, MEPs will look into the situation of European SMEs, mostly active in sectors hit hardest by the economic crisis, and the strategy to support them to recover. The better regulation agenda, which aims to reduce the administrative burden on businesses, will also be raised.

    Between 18.00 and 19.15, MEPs will vote, among other things, on


    • European Globalisation Fund aid for Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland,

    • a provisional agreement with the Council on targeted amendments to the European Travel Information and Authorisation System Regulation.

    The results will be announced on Tuesday morning at 9.00.
