Coronavirus: 70 % de la population adulte de l'Union entièrement vaccinés

Aujourd'hui, l'Union européenne a franchi une étape cruciale, 70 % de la population adulte étant désormais entièrement vaccinée. Au total, plus de 256 millions d'adultes dans l'Union ont désormais reçu une vaccination complète. Il y a sept semaines déjà, soit plus tôt que prévu, l'objectif de livraison de la Commission avait été atteint: fournir aux États membres, pour fin juillet, suffisamment de doses de vaccin pour vacciner entièrement 70 % de la population adulte de l'Union. La présidente de la Commission européenne, M^me Ursula Von der Leyen, a déclaré ce qui suit: « La vaccination complète de 70 % des adultes dans l'Union dès le mois d'août est une grande réussite. La stratégie de l'Union – avancer ensemble – porte ses fruits et place l'Europe à l'avant-garde de la lutte mondiale contre la COVID-19. Mais la pandémie n'est pas terminée. Il nous faut aller plus loin. J'exhorte tous ceux qui le peuvent à se faire vacciner. Et il nous faut également aider le reste du monde à se vacciner. L'Europe continuera de soutenir ses partenaires dans ce but, en particulier les pays à revenu faible et intermédiaire. » La commissaire à la santé et à la sécurité alimentaire, M^me Stella Kyriakides, a déclaré quant à elle: « Je me réjouis que nous atteignions aujourd'hui notre objectif de vacciner 70 % des adultes de l'Union avant la fin de l'été. Il s'agit d'une réalisation collective de l'Union et de ses États membres qui montre ce qui est possible lorsque nous travaillons de concert, dans la solidarité et en coordination. Les efforts que nous déployons pour accroître encore les vaccinations dans l'ensemble de l'Union se poursuivront sans relâche. Nous continuerons à soutenir en particulier les États membres qui rencontrent encore des difficultés. Nouvelles étiquettes énergétiques simplifiées de l'UE pour les produits d'éclairage applicables à partir du 1er septembre

Afin d'aider les consommateurs de l'UE à réduire leurs factures d'énergie et leur empreinte carbone, une toute nouvelle version de l'étiquette énergétique, largement reconnue par les citoyens européens, pour les ampoules et autres produits d'éclairage sera applicable dans tous les magasins et points de vente en ligne à partir du mercredi 1er septembre 2021. La décision fait suite à l'amélioration considérable de l'efficacité énergétique dans ce secteur ces dernières années, ce qui signifie que de plus en plus de « sources lumineuses » (telles que les ampoules et les modules LED) ont obtenu des étiquettes de A+ ou A++ selon l'échelle actuelle. Le changement le plus important est le retour à une échelle plus simple de A à G. La commissaire européenne à l'énergie, Kadri Simson, a déclaré : « Nos lampes et autres produits d'éclairage sont devenus tellement plus efficaces ces dernières années que plus de la moitié des LED appartiennent désormais à la classe A++. La mise à jour des étiquettes permettra aux consommateurs de voir plus facilement quels sont les meilleurs produits de leur catégorie, ce qui les aidera à économiser de l'énergie et de l'argent sur leurs factures. L'utilisation d'un éclairage plus économe en énergie continuera à réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre de l'UE et contribuera à devenir climatiquement neutre d'ici 2050. » La nouvelle échelle est plus stricte et conçue de manière à ce que très peu de produits soient initialement en mesure d'atteindre les notes « A » et « B », laissant la place à des produits plus efficaces pour entrer progressivement sur le marché. Les produits les plus efficaces du point de vue énergétique actuellement sur le marché seront désormais généralement étiquetés « C » ou « D ». Un certain nombre de nouveaux éléments seront aussi inclus sur les étiquettes, y compris un code QR qui renvoie à une base de données européenne, où les consommateurs peuvent trouver plus de détails sur le produit. Investment Plan for Europe supports development of next-generation cyber security platform

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a €15 million financing deal with Dutch cybersecurity company EclecticIQ, a leader in threat intelligence, hunting and response technology and services. The project is backed by a guarantee from the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), the main pillar of the Investment Plan for Europe. The agreement will give EclecticIQ access to the funding it needs to further accelerate the development of its cybersecurity platform and expand internationally in a strategically important and rapidly growing market. Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni said: “As more and more business operations move online, strengthening cybersecurity is becoming ever more important. This support from the EIB, backed by the Investment Plan for Europe, will help EclecticIQ to further grow its activity in this crucial sector, developing its product portfolio and offering clients suitable solutions to effectively counter cyberthreats.” The press release is available online. Agriculture: the Commission approves new geographical indication from Hungary

The Commission has approved today the addition of "Nagykunsági birspálinka" from Hungary in the register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). “Nagykunsági birspálinka” is a fruit spirit made from quince produced in the Nagykunság region. The tastes of the primary fruit, the quince, appear alongside lively, fresh, citrusy notes, complemented by pleasant tannins and discreet tones of stewed fruit or jam. ‘Nagykunsági birspálinka' consists at least 50 % of distillates of Mezőtúr quince varieties, which gives scented, fragrant notes of rose. The outstanding quality of ‘Nagykunsági birspálinka' is also attested by the numerous awards it has won in national and international contests. The new denomination will be added to the list of 251 spirits drinks already protected in the eAmbrosia database. More information online on quality products. State aid: Commission approves €520 million Italian scheme to compensate the trade fairs and congress sector for damages suffered due to the coronavirus outbreak

The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a €520 million Italian scheme to compensate companies active in the trade fairs and congress sector and their service providers for the damages suffered due to the restrictive measures introduced by the Italian government to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will be entitled to compensation in the form of direct grants for part of the damages incurred between 9 March and 14 June 2020 and between 24 October 2020 and 14 June 2021, periods during which, under the restrictive measures in place, the organisation of such events was not allowed. The Commission assessed the scheme under Article 107(2)(b) TFEU, which enables the Commission to approve State aid measures granted by Member States to compensate specific companies or sectors for damage directly caused by exceptional occurrences. The Commission found that the Italian measure will compensate damage directly linked to the coronavirus outbreak. It also found that the measure is proportionate, as the envisaged compensation does not exceed what is necessary to make good the damage. The Commission therefore concluded that the measure is in line with EU State aid rules. Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, in charge of competition policy, said: “The measures that the Italian government had to take to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic required trade fairs and congress operators to stop their activities, resulting in considerable losses for them as well as for their service providers. This €520 million scheme will enable Italy to compensate these companies for the damage suffered. We continue working in close cooperation with Member States to find workable solutions to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak, in line with EU rules”. Mergers: Commission clears acquisition of joint control over Insightsoftware by Hg and TA

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control over GS Topco, LP and its subsidiaries (‘Insightsoftware') of the US by Hg Capital LLP (‘Hg') of the UK and TA Associates Management, LP (‘TA') of the US. Insightsoftware is a provider of business software, offering a suite of financial reporting tools that serve the needs across the office of the CFO. Hg is a specialist private equity investor. Through its subsidiaries, Hg administers capital investments and offers advisory and other services for a variety of participation companies. TA is a private equity firm focused on targeted sectors within technology, healthcare, financial services, consumer and business services. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given the limited horizontal and vertical relationships between the activities of the companies and their low combined and individual market shares. Mergers: Commission clears acquisition of joint control over Mercury Holdings by Brookfield and Digital Realty

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control over Mercury Holdings SG Pte. Ltd. of Singapore by Brookfield Asset Management, Inc. of Canada and Digital Realty Trust, Inc. of the US. Mercury Holdings is a newly established joint venture active in the acquisition, development, construction and operation of data centre facilities in India. Brookfield is a global asset manager focused on real estate, infrastructure, renewable power and private equity. Digital Realty is a real estate investment trust that owns, acquires, develops and operates data centres. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns because Mercury Holdings does not have any actual or foreseen activities in the European Economic Area.
