In a debate shortly after 9.00 with EC Vice-President Vestager and Commissioner Breton, plenary will discuss how to end the unfair practices used by big online platforms and thereby ensure fair competition in the EU’s market. Parliament will then adopt its position on the proposal for a Digital Markets Act ahead of negotiations with the Council of the EU, due to start under the French Council presidency in 2022. The final vote will take place on Wednesday.
Geopolitical tensions at the Russia-Ukraine border, where the Russian government is gathering thousands of troops and raising fears of an imminent invasion, will be the focus of an afternoon debate with EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell. Plenary’s view will be summarised in a resolution to be voted on by MEPs on Thursday.

MEPs will adopt their position on a new international procurement instrument to push third countries to open their procurement markets to EU firms. Once plenary confirms the negotiating mandate, talks with EU member states on the law’s final form can start immediately.
