EU plans for secure, cheaper and sustainable energy

Starting at 8.30, plenary will discuss with Commission Vice-President Šefčovič and the French Presidency how to tackle the increase in energy prices and the EU’s strategy to ensure affordable and sustainable energy across the continent. MEPs will also quiz the Council and the Commission about the international negotiations to modernise the Energy Charter Treaty.

Food security in view of the war in Ukraine: adoption of a resolution

Plenary will vote on a draft resolution urging the EU to reduce its dependence on agricultural imports and to increase its internal production. MEPs are worried about the impact of the war in Ukraine on the agricultural markets and food supply and urge the EU to give immediate food aid to Ukraine.

MEPs are expected to confirm the deal with Council to prolong by ten more years the legislation allowing consumers to use their mobile phones when abroad in the EU without paying a surcharge.

Nominations to new special committees and committee of inquiry

The names of the MEPs who will be sitting on two special committees -on foreign interference and disinformation in the EU, and on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic- and a committee of inquiry - to look into the use of Pegasus spyware- will be announced today in plenary.

EU aid for dismissed workers in France. MEPs will vote on €4 million in EU aid to help 473 employees in France to find new jobs. They were dismissed by the company Selecta due to a fall in sales of vending machine products caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.


Vote on €150 million in aid for Moldova. Parliament is set to approve €150 million in aid for Moldova to cover part of the country’s external financing needs.


Protect EU funds against oligarchs in member states. MEPs are expected to adopt a resolution warning about the “unprecedented magnitude” of oligarchic structures in some EU countries involving members of governments and high-level politicians.

The voting session will start at 11.30. After two years of voting remotely due to the pandemic, MEPs will be present in the chamber and will vote, either by show of hands or by electronic vote, according to the EP Rules of Procedure.
