Fit for 55 in 2030: Parliament to vote on its position on key legislation


Parliament is set to adopt its position on eight draft laws aimed at combatting climate change and protecting European jobs and citizens. In a first voting session, from 12.30 to 14.30, plenary will vote on the Emissions Trading System including for aviation, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the Social Climate Fund. From 17.00 to 18.00, MEPs will vote on CO2 emissions reductions for new cars, land use and forestry and effort sharing. Environment Committee Chair Pascal Canfin will brief journalists on the package at 14.30.

At 11.30, the Speaker of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament), Ruslan Stefanchuk, will speak to MEPs during a formal sitting. EP President Roberta Metsola and Mr Stefanchuk will give a press conference at 11.10 in the Daphne Caruana Galizia room.

MEPs will discuss with Presidents Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen the outcomes of the 30-31 May EU summit, where EU heads of state or government agreed on a sixth sanctions package on Russia over its war against Ukraine.

At 9.00, Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheál Martin will present to plenary his views on the situation in the EU, followed by a round of contributions from political groups’ speakers. EP President Roberta Metsola and Mr Martin will talk to the press immediately before the session, at around 8.50, in the protocol area next to the hemicycle.

LUX Audience Award 2022


The winner of the LUX European Audience Film Award 2022 will be announced in a ceremony in the hemicycle at noon. Representatives of the three shortlisted films will attend and speak to MEPs. There will be a press point immediately after the ceremony with the winning film and EP Vice-President Evelyn Regner in the protocol area next to the hemicycle.

Global threat to abortion rights: a possible US ban. Plenary will discuss the backsliding in women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights globally and in the US. MEPs will vote on a resolution on Thursday.


Human rights and democracy: Xinjang, Nicaragua and Georgia.
MEPs will assess the situation in Xinjang, including the recently leaked police files, Nicaragua, in particular the instrumentalisation of justice, and Georgia, with the emphasis on media freedom and safety of journalists. Plenary will vote on three resolutions on Thursday.


Persecution of Christians across the world.
In the wake of the attack on a Catholic church in Nigeria that took the lives of dozens of people, plenary will debate

the situation of Christians around the world.
