Statement by President Metsola at the opening of the session

EP President Roberta Metsola will make a statement at the opening of the session, at 17.00, on the ongoing investigations in Belgium involving some members and staff of the European Parliament.

Defending the rights of persons with disabilities

After the opening of the session, MEPs are expected to call for the rights of persons with disabilities to be protected more robustly, to allow them to participate socially and in the labour market, whilst fighting discrimination and stereotypes. A resolution will be put to the vote on Tuesday.

Outcome of COP27 climate talks

Starting around 18.00, plenary will review the results of the UN Climate Change Conference held in Sharm el Sheik from 6-19 November. MEPs will discuss the progress towards the Paris agreement objective of limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius and aiming for 1.5 degrees.

Parliament and Council negotiators will try to find an agreement on the proposal for a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which aims to prevent the risk of carbon leakage and is part of the “Fit for 55” initiative to make the EU climate neutral by 2050.

    Starting around 18.00, plenary will review the results of the UN Climate Change Conference held in Sharm el Sheik from 6-19 November. MEPs will discuss the progress towards the Paris agreement objective of limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius and aiming for 1.5 degrees.
