L'Ukraine reçoit plus de 140 000 tonnes de fournitures vitales et essentielles par l'intermédiaire du mécanisme de protection civile de l'UE

Aujourd'hui, la Commission a franchi une nouvelle étape puisque la quantité d'aide en nature fournie à l'Ukraine s'élève désormais à plus de 140 000 tonnes, ce qui en fait la plus grande opération jamais soutenue par le centre de coordination des interventions d'urgence de l'UE.

Cette aide a été fournie par 32 pays depuis l'activation du mécanisme de protection civile de l'UE le 15 février 2022, et a été acheminée via les plateformes logistiques de l'UE en Pologne, en Roumanie et en Slovaquie. Les dons couvrent de nombreux articles et domaines, notamment des ambulances, des camions de pompiers, des générateurs électriques, des transformateurs, du matériel de déminage, des abris, des médicaments et bien plus encore. La valeur financière globale de l'aide est estimée à environ 796 millions d'euros.

La dernière livraison importante effectuée par l'intermédiaire du mécanisme concerne 45 000 tonnes de sel de déneigement données par les Pays-Bas. Livré au cours des huit derniers mois, ce sel, dont la quantité équivaut à environ    1800 camions, est essentiel pour maintenir les infrastructures routières ukrainiennes en état de marche pendant les mois d'hiver rigoureux, et pour garantir que l'aide d'urgence parvienne aux personnes dans le besoin dans tout le pays.

Le commissaire chargé de la gestion des crises, Janez Lenarčič, a déclaré : « Deux ans après le début de cette guerre atroce, l'UE est restée fidèle à sa promesse de se tenir aux côtés de l'Ukraine, aussi longtemps qu'il le faudra. Depuis le début de la guerre, nous avons livré à l'Ukraine 140 000 tonnes de fournitures vitales, allant des véhicules d'urgence aux hôpitaux mobiles. Aujourd'hui, j'exprime ma gratitude aux Pays-Bas pour leur offre généreuse de sel de déneigement, qui fait cruellement défaut, et pour leur étroite coopération avec l'ERCC afin d'en assurer la livraison. Cette contribution cruciale, apportée à l'Ukraine par l'intermédiaire du mécanisme, permet de maintenir ouvertes des infrastructures routières essentielles. Elle garantit que l'aide humanitaire parvienne aux Ukrainiens qui en ont le plus besoin, en toute sécurité et en temps voulu. Il s'agit là d'un excellent exemple de la solidarité de l'UE avec l'Ukraine. Et nous ne nous arrêterons pas là. »

Commission clears acquisition of LSSA and LSWA by PSP, Macquarie and ART

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control of Land Services South Australia (‘LSSA') and Land Services Western Australia (‘LSWA'), both of Australia by the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (‘PSP') of Canada, Macquarie Group Limited (‘Macquarie') and Australian Retirement Trust (‘ART'), both of Australia.

The transaction relates primarily to the provision of land and property valuation services in Australia.

The Commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given the limited impact on the European Economic Area. The notified transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

EU welcomes partners from Africa, Asia and the Pacific in Brussels to expand cooperation

On 1 and 2 February, the EU will welcome representatives from countries and regional organisations across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific in Brussels.

On 1 February, high-level representatives from the EU and the Pacific Islands will engage in discussions on challenges and future prospects of EU-Pacific cooperation at the first Pacific Day that will take place at the European Parliament. Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will deliver a keynote speech on the bilateral cooperation in the region for higher climate ambition and Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen will deliver concluding remarks.

On 2 February, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will chair the 3^rd EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Brussels. The meeting will gather ministers of foreign affairs from the EU and the Indo-Pacific, as well as representatives from regional organisations, to discuss how to address the increasing number of complex economic, environmental, geopolitical, and security challenges that affect both regions.

Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell and Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni will co-moderate sessions with regional counterparts on the green transition, geopolitical and security challenges, and shared prosperity, economic resilience and investments, respectively. Commissioner Urpilainen will host a welcome dinner on 1 February and will speak at the plenary closing session on behalf of the European Commission.

High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will deliver opening and closing remarks. He will hold a press conference at the end of the Forum ca. 14:00 CET. You can follow them live on EbS.

In the afternoon, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Enrique Manalo, will co-chair the 24th EU-ASEAN Ministerial. Following the EU-ASEAN Leaders' Commemorative Summit in December 2022, foreign ministers from the EU and ASEAN will review the implementation of Leaders' decisions and agree the next steps to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the EU and ASEAN. Commissioner Johansson in Lithuania to discuss EU security

Today, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, will travel to Vilnius.

The Commissioner will meet with the Lithuanian Prime Minister, Ingrida Šimonytė, to discuss the situation at EU's external borders, including the threats posed by continuous attempts of Belarus and Russia to instrumentalise migration, as well as the challenges related to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

As part of the visit, Commission Johansson will attend a high-level conference on ‘Women in Law Enforcement', the aim of which is to identify ways to support women in pursuing careers in law enforcement.
