La Commission présente le plan commun de mise en œuvre du pacte sur la migration et l'asile
Après la conclusion d'un accord historique sur le pacte sur la migration et l'asile, des travaux ont commencé pour traduire l'ensemble vaste et complexe d'actes législatifs en une réalité opérationnelle au cours des deux prochaines années.
Le plan commun de mise en œuvre du pacte sur la migration et l'asile, adopté aujourd'hui par la Commission, définit les étapes clés permettant à tous les États membres de mettre en place les capacités juridiques et opérationnelles requises pour commencer à appliquer avec succès la nouvelle législation d'ici-là mi-2026. En outre, les agences de l'UE apporteront également un soutien opérationnel et ciblé aux États membres tout au long de ce processus.
Le plan commun de mise en œuvre fournit un modèle pour les plans nationaux de mise en œuvre devant être adoptés par les États membres d'ici la fin de l'année. Il regroupe les travaux juridiques, techniques et opérationnels en 10 éléments constitutifs afin de concentrer et de faciliter les efforts de mise en œuvre pratique. Tous les éléments constitutifs sont fondamentalement interdépendants et doivent être mis en œuvre en parallèle.
Le plan commun de mise en œuvre sera présenté aux États membres lors du Conseil « Affaires intérieures », après quoi il servira de base à l'élaboration des plans nationaux de mise en œuvre des États membres, qui sont attendus pour décembre 2024. La Commission suivra de près les progrès accomplis dans la mise en œuvre du pacte et fera régulièrement rapport au Parlement européen et au Conseil.

Commission investigation provisionally concludes that electric vehicle value chains in China benefit from unfair subsidies
As part of its ongoing investigation, the Commission has provisionally concluded that the battery electric vehicles (BEV) value chain in China benefits from unfair subsidisation, which is causing a threat of economic injury to EU BEV producers. The investigation also examined the likely consequences and impact of measures on importers, users and consumers of BEVs in the EU. Based on the investigation's findings, the Commission has provisionally established that it is in the EU's interest to remedy the effects of the unfair trade practices found, by imposing provisional countervailing duties on imports of BEVs from China.
Consequently, the European Commission has today pre-disclosed to the interested parties the level of provisional countervailing duties it intends to impose on imports of BEVs from China. In parallel, the Commission has reached out the Chinese authorities to discuss these findings and possible ways to resolve the issue. The individual duties the Commission intends to apply to the three sampled Chinese producers will be:
• BYD: 17,4%;
• Geely: 20%; and
• SAIC: 38,1%.
Other BEV producers in China, which cooperated in the investigation but have not been sampled, will be subject to the following weighted average duty: 21%.
All other BEV producers in China which did not cooperate in the investigation will be subject to the following residual duty: 38,1%.
The provisional findings of the EU anti-subsidy investigation indicate that the entire BEV value chain benefits heavily from unfair subsidies in China, and that the influx of subsidised Chinese imports at artificially low prices therefore presents a threat of clearly foreseeable and imminent injury to EU industry.

La Commission lance des consultations pour évaluer les programmes de financement de la pêche et des activités maritimes
La Commission a lancé aujourd'hui un appel à contributions afin d'évaluer l'efficacité et l'efficience des programmes de financement pour la pêche et les activités maritimes.
Cet appel à contributions vise à recueillir des éléments probants et différents points de vue concernant la gestion et l'utilisation de ces fonds. La Commission sollicite des contributions d'origines multiples, notamment des citoyens, des secteurs de la pêche et de la mer, des organisations non gouvernementales et d'autres encore, ainsi que des administrations nationales des États membres. L'appel à contributions est ouvert jusqu'au 11 juillet 2024 et il est divisé en deux parties, une concernant le Fonds européen pour les affaires maritimes et la pêche (FEAMP) couvrant la période 2014-20 et l'autre concernant l'actuel Fonds européen pour les affaires maritimes, la pêche et l'aquaculture (FEAMPA).
En plus de l'appel à contributions lancé aujourd'hui, une consultation publique sera publiée dans les semaines à venir dans le but de recueillir les réactions des personnes impliquées ou intéressées par la gestion et l'utilisation du financement fourni par l'intermédiaire du FEAMP et du FEAMPA entre 2014 et 2024. La Commission publiera un rapport de synthèse sur ces consultations d'ici la fin de l'année 2024.
Le FEAMPA soutient la politique commune de la pêche, la politique maritime et le programme de gouvernance internationale des océans de l'UE, avec un total de plus de 6,1 milliards d'euros pour la période 2021-27. Son prédécesseur, le FEAMP, couvrait la période 2014-20.

Member States endorse ban of Bisphenol A in food contact materials
Today, taking into account the latest scientific evidence and in view of protecting the health of citizens and ensuring the highest food safety standards, Member States have endorsed a proposal from the Commission to ban Bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact materials (FCM). This means that, after a phase-out period, the chemical will no longer be allowed to be used in these products in the EU.
The decision is based on a scientific assessment from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which concluded that BPA had “potential harmful effects on the immune system”.
This ban will apply mainly to the use of BPA in packaging, such as the coating used on metal cans. The use of BPA in consumer articles such as reusable plastic drink bottles, water distribution coolers or other kitchenware will also be banned.
The ban, which was proposed following a public consultation and extensive discussions with all Member States, will be formally adopted following a scrutiny period by the European Parliament and the Council, and will enter into force at the end of 2024.
Limited exceptions where there are no available safe alternatives and transition periods will apply where they do not pose a risk to consumers. This will allow industry to adjust and avoid potential disruptions to the food chain.

2024 EU Prize for Citizen Science goes to three projects addressing marine pollution, agricultural biodiversity, and mental health
Today, the winners of the EU 2024 Prize for Citizen Science were announced. Citizen science - the general public engagement in scientific research activities – contributes to a vibrant civil society and is getting increasingly popular with Europeans. Out of the 288 applications, three citizen science initiatives received the main prizes and 27 were recognised with honorary mentions. The EU Prize for Citizen Science is funded under Horizon Europe, the EU research and innovation programme (2021-2027).
Commissioner Iliana Ivanova said: “I warmly congratulate the winners of this year's EU Citizen Science Award, but would also like to commend all participants. Your initiatives address some of our most pressing challenges and showcase the transformative potential of citizen science. They improve the excellence and impact of our research, and also deepen the relationship and trust between science and our societies.”
The Grand Prize, worth €60,000, goes to the EU-funded INCREASE project for its outstanding achievements in advancing knowledge on seed preservation through the empowerment of civil society and citizens, in particular from rural areas. The Digital Communities prize, worth €20,000, is given to the Horizon 2020 project CoAct for Mental Health for its use of digital technologies to develop a personalised approach and improve the quality of life for people facing mental health problems. The Diversity & Collaboration prize, worth €20,000, is given to SeaPaCS_Participatory Citizen Science against Marine Pollution for producing transformative knowledge that filled the existing cognitive and emotional gap between society and the sea.

L'UE mobilise son aide pour lutter contre les incendies de forêt à Chypre
Suite à une demande d'assistance de Chypre via le mécanisme de protection civile de l'UE, la Grèce a envoyé deux avions de lutte contre les incendies pour aider à lutter contre les incendies de forêt dans la région de Paphos. Il s'agit de la première utilisation du mécanisme au cours de cette saison des incendies de forêt, cette année. Au total, dans le cadre des mesures de préparation à la saison des incendies de forêt, l'UE a mis en place une flotte de 32 moyens aériens de lutte contre les incendies et 556 pompiers, prépositionnés dans toute l'Europe. En outre, l'UE soutient actuellement huit projets de prévention des incendies de forêt, renforçant ainsi les capacités nationales de résilience aux incendies de forêt.
Le commissaire Janez Lenarcic a déclaré : « Je remercie la Grèce pour sa réponse rapide à l'aide apportée à Chypre dans la lutte contre les incendies de forêt dans la région de Paphos en déployant deux avions de lutte contre les incendies. C'est la solidarité de l'UE en pratique. »
Le Centre de coordination de la réaction d'urgence de l'UE suit de près la situation et se tient prêt à fournir une assistance supplémentaire sur demande.

European Commission issues €6 billion in its 6th syndicated transaction of 2024
The European Commission has yesterday raised €6 billion of EU-Bonds in its 6th syndicated transaction for 2024.
The transaction concerned a new €6 billion bond due on 4 October 2039. The new 15-year bond came at a re-offer yield of 3.477%, equivalent to a price of 98.818%. Bids received were in excess of €37 billion. This equals an oversubscription rate of over 6-times.
The proceeds of the transaction will be used to finance EU policy programmes.
The Commission has now issued approximately €69 billion of its up to €75 billion funding target for the first half of 2024. The last transaction in the EU's indicative issuance calendar is an EU-Bond auction on 24 June 2024.
The European Commission is empowered by the EU Treaties to borrow from the international capital markets on behalf of the European Union. It is a well-established name in debt securities markets, with a track record of bond issuances over the past 40 years. All issuances executed by the European Commission are denominated exclusively in euro. EU borrowing is guaranteed by the EU budget, and contributions to the EU budget are an unconditional legal obligation of all Member States under the EU Treaties.

Commission clears acquisition of Fortenova Group by Pavao Vujnovac
The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of Fortenova Group MidCo B.V. (‘Fortenova Group') of the Netherlands by Pavao Vujnovac of Croatia.
The transaction relates primarily to the agricultural sector, as well as to the food production and supply of daily consumer goods in Croatia, Slovenia and various non-EU countries in the Balkans.
The Commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on competition in the markets where the companies are active. The notified transaction was examined under the normal merger review procedure.

Commission clears acquisition of Alpha Bank Romania by UniCredit
The European Commission approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of Alpha Bank Romania S.A. of Romania by UniCredit S.p.A. of Italy.
The transaction relates primarily to various banking and financial services in Romania, such as retail and corporate banking, financial market services and other financial services.
The Commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given the companies' limited market positions resulting from the proposed transaction. The notified transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

Commission clears acquisition of Monbake by CVC Capital Partners
The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of sole control of Monbake Investment I, S.L. (‘Monbake') of Spain by CVC Capital Partners plc of Jersey.
The transaction relates primarily to the sector of frozen dough and baked products, such as bread, pastry and cake products, primarily in Spain.
The Commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given the companies' limited combined market position resulting from the proposed transaction. The notified transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

Vice-President Jourová, Commissioners Johansson and Lenarčič to attend the Justice and Home Affairs Council
On Thursday and Friday, Vice-President Věra Jourová and Commissioners Ylva Johansson and Janez Lenarčič will attend the Justice and Home Affairs Council, in Luxembourg.
On Thursday, Commissioner Johansson will participate in the meeting of EU Home Affairs Ministers, together with Ministers of Schengen Associated Countries. In the morning, they will exchange views on the overall state of the Schengen area and the priorities for the Schengen Council Cycle 2024-2025. They are also set to discuss the implementation of the interoperability of IT system and exchange views on the future of EU visa policy. Commissioner Johansson will present the Common Implementation Plan for the Pact on Migration and Asylum, adopted by the Commission today. Commissioner Lenarčič will attend a working lunch to discuss preparedness and crisis response at EU level.
In the afternoon, the Ministers are set to discuss the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine on EU's internal security and Commission's proposal to extend the temporary protection for displaced people from Ukraine. On Friday, Vice-President Jourová and Commissioner Johansson will attend the meeting of Justice Ministers. In the morning, Commissioner Johansson will participate in discussions on the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking, as well on the Commission's proposals to combat corruption and update the criminal law rules on child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. Vice-President Jourová will intervene on the Commission's proposals to harmonise certain aspects of insolvency law and on the recognition of parenthood between Member States.
In the afternoon, the discussions will focus on the justice-related aspects of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as on progress regarding the implementation of the Istanbul Convention to combat violence against women and domestic violence which the EU acceded to in 2023. During the meeting, Vice-President Jourová will also present the Commission's findings in the 2024 Justice Scoreboard which provides an annual overview of indicators on the efficiency, quality and independence of justice systems in all EU Member States. La transition verte à l'honneur du 5ème Festival de la Participation Citoyenne et de la Démocratie Délibérative
À partir d'aujourd'hui et jusqu'au 14 juin, la Commission accueillera le 5ème Festival de la participation citoyenne et de la démocratie délibérative à Bruxelles. Cet événement de haut niveau comprendra une table ronde, composée d'experts et de la vice-présidente Dubravka Šuica intitulée « La démocratie est pour la vie quotidienne, pas seulement pour les périodes d'élections ». L'événement rassemblera, en personne et en ligne, plus de 450 citoyens, experts, décideurs politiques, artistes, praticiens et représentants de la société civile pour discuter d'initiatives participatives et d'engagement citoyen sur la transition verte et les questions environnementales.
Au cours des dernières années, les initiatives participatives, telles que la Conférence sur l'avenir de l'Europe, les panels de citoyens européens, les assemblées de citoyens et d'autres initiatives d'engagement citoyen au niveau local, se sont considérablement développées aux niveaux local, régional, européen et mondial. Les préoccupations environnementales, du changement climatique à la perte de biodiversité et à la pollution, ont incité les citoyens, les chercheurs et les décideurs politiques à agir. Ce festival rassemble ces différentes communautés pour discuter de ces initiatives, réfléchir à la manière dont elles peuvent contribuer à renforcer les démocraties et donner aux citoyens une voix significative dans les politiques qui les concernent.
Le Centre de compétences sur la démocratie participative et délibérative, géré par le Centre commun de recherche (Joint Research Centre) de la Commission, soutient le développement de politiques socialement solides grâce à l'engagement des citoyens. Il vise à mettre en œuvre des pratiques participatives et délibératives dans les domaines scientifique et politique, et à répondre aux préoccupations des citoyens et aux questions de gouvernance.

Le commissaire Schmit participera au Forum inaugural de la coalition mondiale pour la justice sociale de l'OIT à Genève*
Demain, le commissaire Nicolas Schmit se rendra à Genève, en Suisse, pour assister au Forum inaugural de la coalition mondiale pour la justice sociale de l'Organisation internationale du travail (OIT). Il participera au panel «Promouvoir le dialogue social pour une prospérité partagée» et débattra de la manière dont un dialogue social efficace entre les partenaires sociaux et les gouvernements peut contribuer à l'instauration de droits sociaux solides pour les travailleurs, notamment grâce à des négociations collectives constructives. Le commissaire présentera les récentes initiatives de la Commission en matière de dialogue social et mettra en évidence les actions et initiatives spécifiques que l'UE prévoit de développer sous les auspices de la coalition mondiale pour la justice sociale.
La mission de la coalition mondiale pour la justice sociale est de «favoriser la coopération multilatérale et d'accélérer les progrès vers la réalisation des objectifs de développement durable, en défendant la justice sociale à l'échelle mondiale». La Commission est un partenaire de la coalition mondiale, au nom de l'UE, depuis février 2024. L'UE est un fervent défenseur du travail décent et de l'inclusion sociale, tant à l'intérieur de ses frontières qu'à l'échelle mondiale. En tant que partenaire de la coalition mondiale, l'UE renforce son engagement en faveur de ces questions et étudie de nouvelles pistes de collaboration avec des partenaires du monde entier.
Le forum inaugural réunit plus de 250 partenaires de la coalition mondiale pour la justice sociale, lors de la 112e session de la Conférence internationale du travail, qui rassemble des délégués du gouvernement, des employeurs et des travailleurs des 187 États membres de l'OIT.
En marge du forum, le commissaire Schmit aura des réunions bilatérales avec Gilbert Houngbo, directeur général de l'Organisation internationale du travail, Luiz Marihno, ministre brésilienne du travail et de l'emploi, Dariia Marchak, premier vice-ministre ukrainien de la politique sociale, et Davinia Esther Anyakun, ministre ougandais du travail, de l'emploi et des relations industrielles.

Le commissaire Breton discute de la préparation du réseau électrique pour les véhicules électriques
Aujourd'hui, le commissaire Thierry Breton organise une table ronde « Route35 » sur les interactions entre l'état de préparation des réseaux électriques et les besoins en matière de mobilité électrique. Il rencontrera des représentants de haut niveau de la chaîne d'approvisionnement automobile, des opérateurs de réseau, des opérateurs d'infrastructures de recharge et des États membres. La discussion se concentrera sur l'état de préparation des réseaux électriques pour répondre aux besoins de l'e-mobilité et sur les conditions requises des véhicules électriques pour contribuer à la stabilité et à la préparation du réseau dans un contexte de besoins accrus d'électrification et de décarbonation du système de réseau.
Le commissaire Breton a déclaré : « Établir des stratégies c'est bien, mais l'exécution c'est mieux. Nous devons suivre et accompagner activement la mise en œuvre du Green Deal sur le terrain pour atteindre nos objectifs de décarbonation, tout en restant compétitifs. Dans l'automobile, grâce à Route35, nous suivons les progrès en matière de conditions favorables à travers des indicateurs clés de performance sur les travailleurs qualifiés, les matières premières et les batteries, les bornes de recharge, les infrastructures ou l'énergie. Les réseaux sont un catalyseur clé de la transition de l'industrie automobile. Les voitures électriques sur les routes européennes consommeront 10 % de la demande d'électricité d'ici 2050. En 2030 déjà, le réseau devra être capable d'intégrer les besoins de recharge des véhicules électriques, notamment des véhicules lourds. La coopération entre les écosystèmes de l'énergie et de la mobilité est essentielle. »
L'UE s'est fixé des objectifs ambitieux en matière de décarbonisation du transport routier : toutes les nouvelles voitures, camionnettes et bus urbains vendus à partir de 2035 devront être 100 % zéro émission, tandis qu'une réduction de 90 % des émissions de CO2 pour les véhicules lourds d'ici 2040 est requise. La réalisation de ces objectifs nécessite un cadre de suivi complet pour suivre les progrès et garantir que tous les facteurs favorables sont en place (voir la fiche d'information « Route35 » sur les progrès réalisés dans la réalisation de nos objectifs de zéro émission pour 2035). La capacité et les performances du réseau électrique sont essentielles pour accélérer la transition vers des véhicules à zéro émission et transformer l'industrie automobile européenne.
À la lumière des besoins d'électrification de l'industrie automobile et du Plan d'action de l'UE sur les réseaux, la table ronde sera l'occasion pour les parties prenantes d'échanger des points de vue sur la préparation du réseau à la demande croissante de recharge de véhicules électriques, y compris les véhicules lourds, ainsi que sur les ajustements potentiels requis par les véhicules électriques.

Commissioner Hoekstra in Finland to discuss climate action with national representatives, industry and civil society
Tomorrow, Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will be in Finland to meet with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and with other national representatives, stakeholders and citizens.
In the morning, Commissioner Hoekstra will hold a roundtable discussion with members of key industries, civil society, and trade unions on the latest developments in the country on climate issues and how to advance industrial decarbonisation and competitiveness in Finland. He will then visit the facilities in Helsinki of Stora Enso, a leading company of forestry, paper, and packaging products, to discuss innovation policies in the sector.
In the afternoon, the Commissioner will hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Orpo, and with the Minister of Climate and the Environment, Kai Mykkänen. Later, he will take part in a Citizens' Dialogue with Climate Pact Ambassadors and students, to discuss their role in the EU's green transition, followed by a working dinner with representatives of the non-profit foundation of businesses for the Climate Leadership Coalition, and the Finnish Climate Science Panel.

APPOINTMENTS
The European Commission appoints a new Director for its Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries
Today, the European Commission has decided to appoint Fernando Andresen Guimaraes to the function of Director for Directorate ‘International Ocean Governance and sustainable fisheries' at Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE). This Commission department aims to develop the potential of the European maritime economy and to secure sustainable fisheries, a stable supply of seafood, healthy seas and prosperous coastal communities. The date of effect will be determined later.
In his new role, Mr Andresen Guimaraes, a Portuguese national, will draw on his extensive professional experience, spanning nearly 35 years across various relevant sectors, including over 20 years in management positions in different EU bodies. He is highly regarded for his strong leadership and management abilities, excellent analytical skills, results-oriented approach, and effective strategic coordination. His vast experience and expertise in international diplomacy and governance will be invaluable in representing the Commission in meetings and high-level negotiations in relevant international forums.
Andresen Guimaraes is currently serving as Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the European Commission. Previously, he was Head of Division for Policy Coordination at the European External Action Service, supporting the High Representative/Vice-President (HRVP). He also served as Acting Director for Interinstitutional Relations, Policy Coordination, and Public Diplomacy and in a similar capacity for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation, and the OSCE. Earlier in his career, he also took on the role of Head of Division for Russia and Head of Division for the United States and Canada.
Fernando Andresen Guimaraes was a Member of the Cabinet of former Commission President José Manuel Barroso, where he contributed to the development of the EU Integrated Maritime Policy Communication and accompanying Action Plan in October 2007, covering a wide range of issues such as maritime transport, the competitiveness of maritime businesses and marine environment protection.
Before joining the Commission in 2004, he worked as a Coordination Officer at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations for the United Nations and served at the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations. Mr Andresen Guimaraes holds a PhD in International Relations.

The European Commission appoints a new Director for its Directorate-General for Research and Innovation
Today, the European Commission has decided to appoint Pauline Rouch to the function of Director for Directorate ‘Common Policy Centre' at Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD). This Commission department is responsible for EU policy on research, science and innovation, with a view to help create growth and jobs and tackle our biggest societal challenges. The date of effect will be determined later.
Ms Rouch, a French national, brings with her 22 years of professional experience, including nearly two decades at the Commission. She will leverage her extensive knowledge across various policy areas, particularly focusing on innovation, research, and digital policies, along with her proven leadership, management, and negotiation skills.
Currently, Pauline Rouch heads the office supporting Mario Draghi, the Special Adviser to the Commission President, in preparing a report on the future of European competitiveness. Previously, she served as Head of Cabinet for Mariya Gabriel, former Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, overseeing, among others, the implementation of the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes. She was also the Commission representative in Coreper I and Head of Unit at the Secretariat-General of the Commission.
Ms Rouch has also served as a member of the transition team for Ursula von der Leyen in 2019, in the Cabinet of Jean-Claude Juncker, former President of the European Commission, and as Head of Cabinet for Martine Reicherts, former Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights, and Citizenship. Additionally, she was Member of the Cabinet of Viviane Reding, former Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights, and Citizenship.
Before joining the Commission in 2005, Ms Rouch worked in public affairs in Brussels.

The European Commission appoints a new Director for its Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs
Today, the European Commission has decided to appoint Anna Athanasopoulou to the function of Director ‘Planning, Finance and Digital Solutions' at its Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), (DG GROW). This Commission department is responsible for developing and managing policies relating to the internal market for goods and services; industrial policy and competitiveness; policies to support SMEs and foster entrepreneurship. The date of effect will be determined later.
Ms Athanasopoulou, a Greek national, brings over 22 years of professional experience to her new role, including nearly 10 years in management positions at the Commission. She is recognised for her leadership abilities and her talent for developing new strategies with a results-driven approach. In this role, she will draw on her extensive experience in different EU policy areas and the areas covered by DG GROW, including a thorough understanding of the Commission's financial management framework, strategic planning, legal compliance, internal control standards, and ICT projects.
Anna Athanasopoulou currently serves as the Head of Unit for Proximity, Social Economy, and Creative Industries at DG GROW. Previously, she was Head of Unit for Tourism, Textiles and Creative Industries at DG GROW, Deputy Head of Unit for Creative Europe at the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) and policy assistant to the Deputy Director-General of DG EAC. She also served as a Member of the Cabinet for Androulla Vassiliou, the former Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, and Youth.
A civil servant of the EU institutions since 2002, Ms Athanasopoulou held a diplomatic role at the Council of the EU liaison office to the UN and WTO in Geneva, Switzerland, before joining the Commission in 2006. She holds PhD and Master's degrees in History of Art and a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology.
