Commission greenlights Slovakia's payment request for €591 million under NextGeneration EU

Today, the Commission positively assessed Slovakia's sixth payment request for €591 million under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the centrepiece of NextGenerationEU. The Commission found that Slovakia satisfactorily completed all 8 milestones and 11 targets set out in the Council Implementing Decision. The measures tied to this payment request will drive positive change for citizens and business in Slovakia. Flagship measures include:

  • Creation of regional support centres for schools: Slovakia has launched

40 curricular management centres, staffed with teams dedicated to aiding the implementation of curriculum reform, improving education and benefitting the staff through additional resources.

  • Expanded access to atrial fibrillation surgeries: Slovakia has enhanced cardiac care by equipping three cardiovascular institutes with advanced technologies for atrial fibrillation treatment, enhancing procedural efficiency and providing patients with greater access to high-quality care.

Next steps

The Commission has now sent its positive preliminary assessment of the fulfilment of milestones and targets, based on the revised plan, to the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), which has four weeks to deliver its opinion.
